Leukopenia, a reduced number of white blood cells is not usually life threatening in itself. However, the low number of leukocytes in the blood can make patients more susceptible to infections. If the person is suffering from an infection that is strong enough for their weakened immune system, may even die. The reduced white blood cell count can also make patients vulnerable to many parasitic disorders. A body with a compromised immune system is fragile and open to infections and several other conditions.
A good way to handle problems is to include blood count tests complete blood count (CBC) standard in regular physical exams. The complete blood count may help identify problems before they spiral out of control. These can also help control the state before further problems arise.
